Today (Friday), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ordered the Lebanese ambassador to the Kingdom to leave within 48 hours and banned all imports from Lebanon. According to a report by the official news agency, the ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Lebanon was summoned for consultations. Saudi Arabia's moves come in response to critical statements made by a Lebanese minister regarding its military intervention in Yemen.
The Saudi move is expected to deepen the crisis of the Lebanese government, which is already suffering from political paralysis due to the controversy surrounding the investigation into the Beirut port disaster. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced, tonight, that his country is committed to good relations with Saudi Arabia, and tonight called on its Arab partners to put the crisis behind them.
"We also appeal to our fellow Arab leaders to work and help overcome this crisis in order to preserve Arab cohesion," Mikatai said in a statement.
