Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that the Israeli occupation is committing genocide against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip , after the occupation announced the imposition of a complete siege on the Strip, which includes depriving its residents of water and electricity and preventing food from entering it.
Maduro explained in a statement broadcast on Venezuelan television yesterday, Monday, that Israel had committed brutal massacres and massacres against the Palestinian people in the past as well, and that the Palestinians were living under a new apartheid regime.
The Venezuelan President called on Israel to cease fire, respect United Nations resolutions, and respect the rights of the Palestinians. He also called for launching urgent peace negotiations that would enable the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights, including their right to independence, land, and peace.
Maduro said, "I defend the Palestinian people and I defend peace. The Secretary-General of the United Nations issued a statement, which we read carefully, alerting and warning against the genocide that began against the Palestinian people in Gaza."
International concern
On Monday, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his deep concern after Israel announced the imposition of an absolute blockade on the Gaza Strip, cutting off water and electricity, and preventing food from entering it.
Guterres stated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza will deteriorate severely, stressing that the recent military escalation arose from a long-term conflict with an occupation that lasted 56 years and that there is no political solution on the horizon, as he put it.
Guterres reminded Israel that its military operations must be carried out in full respect of international humanitarian law, and called on the parties concerned to allow the United Nations to continue its efforts to secure aid to respond to the needs of the Strip.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant announced earlier that he had ordered the imposition of a "complete siege" on the Gaza Strip, and stressed that for the Strip's 2.3 million residents, this translates into "no electricity, no food, no water, and no gas. We will suspend everything." The Israeli Ministry of Defense also announced that it had ordered an "immediate" cut off of water supplies to Gaza.
The Israeli occupation army has launched continuous raids on the Gaza Strip since Saturday, which it said were the most violent in years, leading to the death of 687 of its residents, according to the latest information issued by the Ministry of Health in the Strip.
Clashes also continue in Israeli sites and towns on the fourth day of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, which was launched by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) last Saturday in response to the occupation army’s violations against the Palestinian people and its incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque. The number of Israeli deaths in the Hamas operation has exceeded 900 people.
