The Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed, said today (Thursday) that he agreed with US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a roadmap that leads to normalization between Jerusalem and Abu Dhabi in exchange for stopping the annexation. He posted the message on his Twitter account in Arabic and English, following the messages that Trump and Netanyahu posted on Twitter.
The UAE is one of the United States' most important allies in the Middle East, and in recent years there have been reports of improved relations with Israel behind the scenes, including as part of the struggle against Iran. However, the words of the prince, the de facto leader of the Arab state, were more thoughtful than those of Trump, who announced a "historic peace agreement."
The Foreign Minister of the UAE, Anwar Karakash, said that if the Israeli annexation, which Washington agreed to as part of the "deal of the century", had taken place, there would be no chance for peace in the region. In an interview with the Arabic-language Sky News, the senior official said that preventing the annexation "nullified a time bomb" that would have put an end to the idea of two states, and called on the Palestinians to return to the negotiating table.
